A hot rodder at heart, and a extreme sport junkie, and I love fishing! My days of extreme sports are numbered as the years go by, but I’ll keep enjoying it while my body lets me. Meanwhile, I’ll still enjoy fishing, and also tinkering and modifying shit that was already good to begin with lol,
Little 19.5# Yellowfin Tuna Took Me For A Quick Ride! - Catch & Cook - Kayak Fishing Hawaii! Hobie
This 19.5# Shibi(yellowfin tuna) really surprised me. I thought I had something bigger on. This strong fish pulled drag and towed the kayak while the Penn Fathom 25NLD2 drag was set on strike! Fantastic fight for sure.
This is the third fish on the Penn Lever Drag Conventional, and I’m digging it. I don’t have to hold the rod up high to clear the reel/rotor like with spinning reels. I’m definitely going to add another conventional setup with another Penn Fathom 25NLD2.

DIY Hobie Trax/H-D PVC Cart Hack! Transform It Into A Easier To Use Universal Kayak Cart!

After having an idea rolling around in my head for almost two years, I have finally gotten off my lazy butt and started the project, and completed it! Very happy with the result! Makes a Hobie Trax/Heavy Duty Plug-In cart easier to use, and be able to used with other brands of kayaks. The Hobie cart remains un-altered, it’s an easy & fun project, only about $30 in materials. What’s not to like?...
Aloha/Goodbye To My Hobie Revolution 16! / Last Look! / Mirage Drive Tech Tip!

During my almost 2 years of non-stop kayak fishing, i sorta got burnt-out and took a break in December 2019. I also have acquired too many kayaks during that time, now owning a Outback, a Trident 13, a Pescador 12, and a Rambler tandem. So with the covid 19 pandemic going on, and the uncertainty, I thought it may be best to sell one of the Hobie’s to help pay the mortgage. So, because the Outba...

Broke My Gear, Sand In Everything!! Hawaii Offshore Kayak Surf Launch Fumble, Landing Fail!
Переглядів 5 тис.4 роки тому
Wind and surf forecast looked perfect all week after a week of high winds and I could hardly wait. Arrived at launch site and right away I could see the bigger waves rolling in under the full moon light. I also noticed that the sand slope down to the water was higher and steeper than usual, and the good size shore break that carved it out, so landing and pulling the heavy kayaks up was going to...
Cheap, Quick & Easy Kayak Safety Light

Been using the Life Gear Flashlight lantern as shown since last year with no problems. They’re bright, highly visible to boaters, and the replaceable AA batteries last long. If you don’t want to attach them to your rods, you can also glue them to a platform and attach to a pvc pipe to make a DIY light pole(Flying Fish TV has it mounted this way). They also float and, and they go to red flash mo...
Alarm Fail, Late Start, GoPro Operator Errors = Still A Great Day On The Hawaii Hobie Kayak
Переглядів 4824 роки тому
Ill prepped to say the least. Apart from the alarm not goin on ad waking me up, I screwed up filming the launch cause GoPro was in still shot mode, the head mounted GoPro backup battery wasn’t charged, the front boom GoPro had no battery in it, didn’t catch bait, and I couldn’t film the beach landing. But, catching the Kamanu(Rainbow Runner) and a beautiful day on the water made up for all thos...
Reliable Kayak Transducer Install. Thru Hull Water Well Method Garmin Hobie Hawaii
Переглядів 23 тис.4 роки тому
This is what I think is the most effective method of installing a transducer for a thru-hull install. I was tempted to just stick the transducer in a wad of duct seal for a quick and easy job, but decided not to after hearing of and reading about various problems with that method, especially with the larger transducers that are now more common. UPDATE After noticing some abnormal readings on th...
Offshore Kayak Hawaii Fishing Yellowfin Tuna Shibi
Переглядів 1,8 тис.4 роки тому
My first trip on my new to me 2010 Ocean Kayak Trident 13. Finally caught my first Shibi(Yellowfin tuna smaller than 100#)! Didn’t find bait(Opelu) cause mainly messing around with the kayak setup. Good friend Shane gave me an Opelu(Mackeral Scad) which I promptly put in the water on a wire stinger rig. Bait was in the water not even a couple minutes when the Shibi took it! Thank God and Shane ...

Переглядів 2,7 тис.5 років тому
I use this Rig to catch Akule(goggle eyes), Opelu(Cigar Minnow), and various desirable nearshore fish. It helps to tie all the double overhand knots on the main line in advance, and to secure one end of the main line while you tie in the branches. I also like to keep my branches short around 1-1/8” - 1-1/4” long to reduce tangles, especially while on a kayak.
DIY Kayak Fish Finder Battery Case for Nocqua 10a Lithium
Переглядів 8985 років тому
Made a battery box for my new Nocqua 10a fish finder battery using a cheap airtight food container. In hindsight, I should of connected a inline fuse holder in the box, but at least the stock Garmin inline fuse downstream will provide shor...

Rod holders are amazing, where did you find the flared trumpet tips?
nice job...i don't have a starter line thru the tube to which to glue it to ...any ideas??
How did you cut the wood so exact!
thanks for the idea! I'M getting ready to replace mine and wasn't sure how i was going to do the!
I just bought velcro straps with backsiding tape going put it inside haul hoping it works never used a fish finder its a striker 4 4cv vivid
Where did you get the fitting?
I have no idea what those lure call anyone know?
Hobie kayaks suck, they take on water so easily, you're always wet.. not to mention how easily they tip... My old Towne is dry as a bone my entire day fishing and couldn't tip of you tried.... Never again will I have another hobie
Tricked worked for me except I had to remove the tube, take the end grommet off and pull enough old cord out to remove this tiny o-ring inside the tube. Then I CA'ed the ends and pulled through the tube like you, then put the old o-ring back on, suck it up into the tube some with the new line and finally put the inside end black cap back on. I used this 2mm line for replacement, works great: Robline - Ocean 3000 Dyneema - 2mm (Grey) - 5/64in
Wow, glad you’re OK, watching this makes me want to sell my kayak. And I haven’t even had it out yet. It’s amazing how quick trouble and damage can come.
Naw, don’t sell your yak! Just gotta take your time and read the surf/ocean conditions, if you’re launching/landing from the beach. Also, when in doubt, don’t go. Thanks for watching!
Nice work! Have you tried it from a marina ramp? I'm on Oahu and fish out of Hickam. Would like to try this
For marina ramps, I usually use my fold-n-stow cart, but it should work. Just more effort to try to submerge the balloon tires. I usually use it for sand beach launches like pokai, tracks etc. Thanks!
So, to repair, can you just tie with another uni-knot instead of the multiple half-hitches?
You could, but the uni knot tends to slip more. Thanks
Hi, can you make a video about your tube live well and how to build it? Thanks in advance
How's this holding up?
Made some rigs. Going try em tonight. Thanks for the tutorial
This is like someone giving away his loved pet. Thanks for the nice tour. I hope the new ower lovers her as much as I can tell you did.

Excited to try that recipe! Just need to catch a shibi first haha
Nice job man! Looks like the fish were biting everywhere on Sunday. Getting out there early really is key.
Thanks! Was waiting for a while to have a day where everything was aligned. Yes, the earlier the better. Gotta get bait so you can put bait in the water before the sun comes up. Better chances for ono. I get up early around 330, but I wont leave the house until I go crap, and sometimes there’s a delay lol.
She-Bee Goodness took you for a nice ride!... nice size Shibi!!🤙🏽🤙🏽
Mahaloz!
Same thing happened to me at a different beach on the snapped two rods
Nice work! I did something similar and found it needs to be strapped down in most cases. Also if you hit a decent bump with the kayak loaded those PVC tee's will break. I ended up reinforcing all of the tee's with stainless steel tee brackets which helped a lot.
Thanks! So far it’s holding up for me, but it is a lighter kayak. I do end up with a bit of weight from all the gear and 30# of ice though. The tee brackets sound like a good idea. I also thought of using wooden dowels and epoxy inside to reinforce the fittings, or maybe even expanding foam. Thanks for watching!
Maybe fill them with dense spray foam
@@alive4082 spray foam won't provide the rigid support needed. Maybe if you injected epoxy throughout the inside of the cart that would help but it would make the cost not worth it. The stainless T plates I used to each side of the PVC fittings has held for a while now and cost me $12 in Amazon
That’s a great modification! I’m gonna try that!
Awesome! Mines working great so far. Thanks for watching!
Why would you need to add water to it?
The water allows the transducer to transmit/receive sonar through it, through the plastic hull, and the water on the other side. Using water is more reliable than using silicone sealant or ductseal because it is less likely to have air bubbles which can disrupt the sonar signals.
Did it work
Great instructional video! Do you think it matters if the rig is tied on backwards (branches pointing down to the lead)?
Thanks! I don’t think it matters if it’s backwards, but I did change my knot a little while after that video. The new knot I came up with(I think) makes a stiffer “T” so less tangles and more action from the fly/plastic. The knot also doesn’t slide. Never got around to making a video though, but will soon.
Sorry to see such a disastrous landing, maybe consider a stealth fusion or fisha for surf launching.
Didnt work at all on my boat, 2d, or any of the other, going to try the scupper hole idea.
That looks fun haha
Can't seem to find the video about the rudder
Is there room inside your hull to store your rods before landing on the beach? I always secure my gear (including the fish finder) inside my hull prior to landing the yak in that surf - glad you’re okay 👍
Thanks! I probably could have stuffed the rods and reels through the front hatch, but it gets sketchy scooting to the front far enough to reach the hatch(one of the reasons I sold the revo 16). I thought about stuffing the reels inside dry bag, and securing the rods somewhere on the side of the kayak, but I never got around to rigging something to secure the rods. Should have been simple but just got lazy. After a year break from kayak fishing, I’m now rigging a Revo 13 with a system to prepare for beach landings. No excuses this time with it’s easier to reach hatch. Thanks for watching.
😂
do you have any pictures or videos how you installed the blind nut inserts?
ua-cam.com/video/n4he0GXNTzQ/v-deo.html
Wow that shibi had a lot of fight in it
Seems like most of the fish I catch save their energy until the get to the kayak lol. Can’t wait to get back on the water again. Thanks for watching! Keep up the great videos btw.
Thanks man! I learned most of what I know from you guys who been putting up vids for long time now. Hope we all get some nicer yak weather soon.
Hey bud I was thinking of something very similar myself an I like that someone else came up with a similar idea, but please next time don't talk about squishing or pulling off your balls lmao sorry man I had to joke a lil about it..
Nice Rig. I used a pipe cap the same size as the cup holder, Snug fit to mount my fish finder, Works like the Best mount you could buy. Very Cheap
Hello friend, very good video. I have a Vibe kayak and the wiring pod comes out, I thought about putting the plastic tubes from the Hobie in it. Are they glued on the outside or inside the sheath where the cable passes? Thanks a lot!
ummm this is really about feeding a new line I wouldn't use it as a install !
On sale at West Marine...Must have cost a little more than other stores still
PSA: this only works with 2D sonar. Hull through will NOT work with side imaging and/or down imaging.
Boat is beautiful!! I love how we all have our own setups, and save hundreds of dollars on DIY Equipment, from things at home, Wal-Mart, home depot, etc!! Would love to see the 2.5 Suzuki on her. I know you know Steve from key west kayak fishing. He also has that boat, it's Stealthy!! I have the pelican catch pwr 100. I only weigh 145 lbs. I put a set of mini outriggers on her, that lift, and the 2.5 Suzuki. Love it..Be safe👍🙏🙏 God bless.
Helter skelter video but very informative.
So do you prefer the outback over the Revo 16? I have a pro angler and aoutback I’m thinking about buying a revo 16 just wondering your opinion I live in Florida but I usually go offshore 5 miles or so it can get rough which the Pro angler is no good for those conditions thank you
I liked the Revo 16 much better in rough conditions. Slices through the waves, and less head toss in the chop. It’s also surprisingly stable if moderately loaded. Went with the Outback because all of the crap that I loaded on the Revo 16 made it unstable, and I went swimming a couple of times. My large Hobie fish kill bag filled with 25 lbs + of ice, bait and drinks was probably the thing that took it over the edge. I did have sidekicks on the the Revo, but I didn’t like using them because they made the kayak feel clumsy during beach launches and landings. I tend to do shorter range trips now with the Outback because fighting the strong currents and wind is much more slow and tiring. Once Hobie’s kayak inventory normalizes, I’ll probably get a Revo 13. The 13’s fatter stern seems to handle weight better than the 16.
@@pingpong808 Thank you very much for all the information my friend
"No f-ing way," I said when I saw you also have the relatively uncommon Revo 16. Thanks, this was a big help.
Thx for sharing! I was wondering the name of the rubber tool box you bought in the home depot.. couldn't find anywhere
Sean Kang FlexBasket by Starplast. I actually bought some more recently. I think it’s seasonal. The two HD in my area only had a few in stock, one location had one color(white), and the other had grey.
all the gear no idea
Hi ! Joe! nice video! im in Brazil and just considering getting a revo 16.. it looks reall nice but i got one question: How did your boat take in so much water that you had to swim back towing it?
Hi Mike! Thanks for watching. I don’t know if I mentioned it in the video, but I forgot to put the drain plug back in. My plug had a broken retainer so I had put it aside when I was washing it down after my last trip. The issue is that the drain hole is small(10mm, maybe smaller), so water gets in slowly. By the time I noticed the instability because of all the water inside the hull, I was already over 1/4 mile out. Again because the hole is so small, I couldn’t find something to plug it when I jumped in the water to find missing plug. And also stupid me, I forgot my hand sump pump that day. Hobie finally deleted the drain plug on 2018 and newer Revo 16’s.
@@pingpong808 Hi Joe! Thanks for answering! Yeah I know this little problem of the drain plug well! Once I almost sank a Hobie cat 16 because of this.. In bad conditions this can kill you.. I'm actually more into sailing but I want to have a kayak for the calm days.. maybe even I will learn to fish.. But does this Kayak take in water normally in other places? Like the bow hatch?
Mike Tarifa My front hatch sealed pretty well even with countless waves over the bow. I saw a couple of videos where they added sheet foam under the hatch, or installed additional bungees for better sealing. The round hatches were pretty watertight too in my case. I did have some water coming through the rudder line tubes, but that was when the kayak was heavily loaded.
@@pingpong808 Ok 👍 Thanks for the info! It's actually almost impossible to keep a boat 100% watertight..
Mike Tarifa Yes indeed. A liter or two in the hull after a rough trip is acceptable in my opinion.
Joe, let me know when you start fishing Lake Wilson! I'm in the market for a kayak to fish those waters.
Derfie Shewts! Been wanting to go on the lake but I’m worried about covid in the water since treated wastewater is dumped into lake Wilson. Don’t know if it is an issue but I gotta do some research. Anyways, I do have a spare kayak that you could use if we go. It’s my “grab and throw in the truck” kayak for easy kine kayak fishing sessions. www.westmarine.com/buy/west-marine--pompano-120-sit-on-top-angler-kayak-sand-black--16163834
Was the stability ever a big issue on the 16?
jkokuna808 No. In fact, I was surprised how stable it was on my first trip on her. Of course you still have to be aware while reaching in the back, or any other awkward body motions. Stability only became an issue when it was fully loaded with gear. I got carried away with gear and stuff so I had to learn to simplify and downsize.
